This year's show challenge involves negative space quilting. It's not new but it is different.
QUILT CHALLENGE - NEGATIVE QUILTING - QUILTING THE BLANK SPACES
What is it?
Negative space is the background area that surrounds the subject. For our challenge, we are asking for quilts that incorporate the use of negative space as the primary design element of the quilt.
Quilt Show Challenge Rules
Theme - Quilting Negative Space
The viewer’s eye is drawn to the way in which your negative (blank space) is quilted. It’s usually the majority of your piece. It is popular in that you are free to be as creative as you like with the negative space. The piece cannot measure more than 96” in total.
Square, rectangular, round -it’s up to you. The negative space has to be a solid colour of your choice.
The quilter’s name must be clearly labelled on the back of the piece.
A 4" hanger sleeve must be attached to the back of the quilt. The pieces will be judged by the quilt show attendees.
Eligible contributors are to be comprised of Stitches From The Heart members who were members in good standing as of December 31st, 2023.
