This group meets the first Thursday of every month from September through and including June.
We meet at the Northern Community Centre at 556 Goulais Avenue at 10 am.
We give instruction in the various methods of applique and provide challenges to the members to help reinforce their new skills. We bring instructors in to showcase their expertise and encourage our ongoing members to share their knowledge with quick demos. We enjoy the company of visiting quilters who drop by to see what we are up to. Feel free to check us out!
Twice a year we gather up the scraps that have been donated make dog/cat beds for local shelters and veterinarian offices. We sew, sort, stuff and sew these bags then drive off and deliver them to the organizations who can use them! Our last sew day we made 150 beds!
Keep an eye out for the next date!
Comfort Quilts is a subgroup of our approximate 125 member quilt guild.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our quilts are created as a “hug” to the recipient from our quilting community.
VISION
To create quilts that provide comfort, security and warmth to those in need.
POLICIES
These quilts are meant as a gift directly to the recipient, who are primarily adults. Under no circumstances will a quilt be awarded as a prize, or as a raffle winning. No profit will be made from any of these quilts.
First and foremost we will supply a quilt to our members, and their loved ones. Should supplies permit, quilts will then be distributed to individuals and organizations that would benefit from one of these quilts.
CRITERIA
Those undergoing extensive long term cancer treatment.
Those suffering from a terminal illness.
Other life events such as a debilitating long term health condition.
The recipient must live within the guilds geographical area.
WHERE AND WHEN
We are now meeting at the Seniors Drop In Centre at 619 Bay Street, SSM.
The cost is $2 per person to join in and help us make quilts for various charities.
For new and returning members who are looking for a place to meet other quilters in a more intimate setting, our group may be just what you're looking for. The ladies who come are quilters at all levels, and more often than not most of us learn something new every time. We especially invite beginner quilters to join us. If you have the time and want to do some charity sewing we would love for you to join us!
The next date is Wednesday, February 14th, 2024
